M416 and Kar98k Still Cover Most PUBG Mobile Fights
4 August 2026 · playnex
The M416 and Kar98k combo covers close, mid and long range without forcing you to loot a specific gun. Here is why it works and the situations where it lets you down.
The loadout
Primary: M416 with red dot or holographic sight, vertical foregrip, extended quickdraw magazine. Secondary: Kar98k with a 6x or 8x scope, suppressor if you find one.
This is not a fancy pick. It is the loadout most squads end up with by mid-game because both guns are common drops and both do a job the other cannot.
Why it works
The M416 handles everything from 10 to 150 metres. Low recoil, fast fire rate, and it takes almost every attachment in the game. With a vertical foregrip and a compensator or suppressor, you can spray through a full magazine without the barrel climbing on you. That makes it your answer to third-partying, close rushes, and mid-range peeks off cover.
The Kar98k is your one-shot-to-the-head answer for anything past 150 metres. In the third and fourth circles, when zones open up and fights happen across open ground, a clean headshot ends the fight before the other side even gets a return shot off. No other common weapon does that reliably at range.
The split works because you are never caught without an option. Someone pushes your building, you swap to M416 and hold the doorway. Someone is sniping your third party from a ridge, you go prone, line up the Kar98k, and answer.
How to build it fast
- Loot the M416 first, even before armor, if you have a choice. It is the gun you will use most.
- Prioritise a compensator over a suppressor on the M416 if you can only carry one attachment slot's worth. Recoil control matters more than stealth in most mid-game fights.
- Do not skip the extended mag on the M416. Running dry mid-fight against a squad is how you lose fights you were winning.
- On the Kar98k, a 6x is often more usable than an 8x unless you are confident holding sway and breathing control on moving targets.
Where it falls apart
This loadout is not built for early game. In the first two minutes, when fights happen at point-blank range inside buildings and compounds, both guns are awkward. The M416 without attachments has real recoil, and the Kar98k needs a bolt-action reload between shots. If you land in a hot drop, you want an SMG or a shotgun in hand, not this combo.
A sniper rifle is only as good as your ability to hit the first shot. If you are not confident landing headshots under pressure, the Kar98k becomes dead weight in your inventory.
It also struggles on maps with tighter sightlines and shorter engagement distances. If most of your fights happen inside 50 metres because of map layout, the Kar98k rarely gets used, and you are better off carrying a second AR or an SMG as your secondary instead.
The other weak point is ammo management. The M416 eats 5.56 rounds fast once you start holding angles or spraying through walls. The Kar98k uses 7.62. Carrying enough of both means less space for meds, grenades, or a level 3 vest. If your bag is full of ammo and empty of utility, you will win the gunfight and lose the next circle rotation because you had no smoke to cover your push.
When to switch
If you are consistently landing in close-quarters fights and losing them before you can line up a sniper shot, drop the Kar98k for an SMG or shotgun and keep the M416 as your all-rounder. If you are getting picked off from range before you can close distance, the Kar98k stays and the M416 becomes your backup for when fights get close.
The loadout is a default, not a rule. Read the fight you are actually in, not the fight you planned for at the start of the match.
